Mecklenburg Hot Batch Composting by Willliam Kruger
Mecklenburg hot batch composting is a method I learned in my master composting class. It was developed at Compost Central, which is run by the Mecklenburg County Waste Management department. Hot batch composting is ideal for home composting because of the small size of the batch and the relatively fast way in which high quality compost is created.
This method involves a three cubic foot pile of a ration of carbon and nitrogen mix with a proper amount of moisture to create a compost pile that in the first week of decay will develop an ideal temperature of 140 degrees at its center. This destroys harmful elements and alloys and you a good batch of compost. If the pile is built right and turned properly, you should get a nice batch of usable compost in as little as 8 to 9 months.
If you can get a group of ten people together who wish to learn this method of home composting let me know and I will be glad to instruct you and your group. |
